Tanya Morgan - The Bridge EP

Tanya Morgan is a trio of emcees (Donwill, Ilyas and Von Pea) hailing from Brooklyn and Cincinnati. The Bridge follows a string of solid mixtapes and provides a lead-in (or a bridge if you catch the drift) to the upcoming sophomore effort, Brooklynati. The EP before the album is a tactic Tanya Morgan used for their debut, Moonlighting. It also goes in line with the heavy demands for massive quality material we place on the lesser known hip-hop talents nowadays.

Listen to a few tracks...

It starts with a bang! The title track packs sharp lyrics chock-full of quotables into an energetic beat courtesy of the appropriately-named Mysterious Productions. In less than four minutes, the magic behind Tanya Morgan unfolds to the delighted eardrums. You got three remarkably talented individuals. That’s three different approaches, each of which can carry the whole track. Yet, they combine exceptionally well and the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Off course, you have breakout moments throughout the EP depending on the listener. I was enthralled with Ilyas on the Filthier Interlude and Got 2 Get Done. Donwill was captivating with his personification of our beloved in Hip Hop Is Dead II. And Von Pea not only turned in impressive soulful production – he did most of the album – but also gave us riveting performances such as Get Me Inside.

Fans of Tanya Morgan should appreciate the progress the three emcees have made since Moonlighting. The flows are more agile, the deliveries are more graceful and the cadences are more poised. If you’re new to TM, The Bridge would serve as a perfect introduction to the group, their past and future efforts.

It’s another job well done for Tanya Morgan. The Bridge is practically airtight and raises the expectations for the second full-length. Then again, it's a strong indication that they won’t disappoint.
