Home Music Features The Mixtape Arthur King - Summer 06 Mixtape [France]

For Kardi Kardi, third time might just be the charm. Despite two solid albums on his belt, the Torontonian has thus far been overlooked. Now on Akon's label, he's lookin' set to get that mainstream he so deserves. This obligatory preview mixtape with Clinton Sparks (Boston n... don't play!) contains six joints from his upcoming Not 4 Sale album, so this is definitely one to snatch...

Arthur King - summer '06My birthday came and went by this past Friday, and Arthur King's new mixtape was as apropos a surprise as it was pleasant. I got the chance to host Summer 05 on the site last year, so it's a pleasure to go at it again. If you haven't been following, Arthur King hails from France and is part of a DJ collective named La Contre Face Son. Summer 06 picks up where Summer 05 left off and brings together those undeniable jams that you might have (or should have) heard on the radio, the club, the bar, or wherever else you lounge at. Things are kept fresh with exclusive remixes, blends and other little tricks to keep those heads nodding. Arthur King hopes you'll enjoy this for the rest of the summer. I'm sure you will.

When I'm making a mixtape...
I keep the best part about the tracks I pick. If that means leavin a verse out or playin a certain segment over and over, then so be it. The mix is also important. It has to give you that feeling that there's somebody on the turntables, that it's not a playlist in shuffle mode. So I always make sure to have cuts, blends and all the little tricks that make for an interesting hip-hop mix. I love music. And I'm always pleased when I can put out 90 minutes of non-stop dope music.

My influences & favorites...   More...
As far as DJs go, I'd have to say Primo, Q-Bert, Spinbad, Jazzy Jeff and Cut Killer. I also fancy Prince, Marley Marl, The Notorious B.IG. and The Neptunes - just to name a few.
